SplitEase

Privacy Statement

How SplitEase handles your data.

This Privacy Statement explains what information SplitEase processes, why it is processed, and how it is protected. Last updated on May 8, 2026.

01

Information Collected

SplitEase processes information you provide directly, including your name, email address, password hash, group memberships, expenses, balances, comments, settlements, and any receipt images or parsed receipt data you upload.

02

How Information Is Used

The service uses your information to create and secure your account, operate groups and balances, process settlements, send account-related emails, detect abuse, and support optional product features such as receipt scanning and monthly summaries.

03

Receipt Uploads and AI Processing

If you use receipt scanning, uploaded images and extracted text may be processed by integrated OCR or AI providers strictly to generate draft expense data. Because this feature is optional and experimental, avoid uploading receipts that contain personal information you do not want processed for that purpose.

04

Cookies, Sessions, and Technical Data

SplitEase uses essential session cookies and similar client-side storage to keep you signed in, protect forms, remember certain interface preferences, support offline or app-like behavior, prevent abuse, and maintain service reliability. This includes session cookies, browser storage used for settings such as theme selection or dismissal of install prompts, and service worker or cache storage used for PWA functionality. SplitEase may also process browser, device, network, and request metadata needed for security, fraud prevention, debugging, error monitoring, and aggregate usage measurement.

05

Analytics

SplitEase uses Umami Analytics to measure site usage and improve the product. Umami is configured through a script served from cloud.umami.is and receives technical usage data such as pages visited, approximate device and browser information, referring site, and similar event metadata. This analytics setup is intended to provide aggregate traffic statistics rather than advertising profiles.

06

Sharing

Information is shared with other members of the groups you join to the extent required for the app to display shared expenses, balances, comments, settlements, and related group activity. Data may also be processed by infrastructure, analytics, email, storage, anti-abuse, error monitoring, OCR, and AI processing providers that support the service. For example, public account creation and password reset flows may use Cloudflare Turnstile for bot protection, browser usage analytics may be processed by Umami Analytics, and if browser or server error monitoring is enabled, technical diagnostics may be processed by Sentry or similar service providers acting on behalf of the operator.

07

Retention and Security

Data is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. SplitEase uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no system can guarantee absolute security.

08
